10-year-old Birmingham boy dies after being hit by vehicle

A Birmingham fifth grader died Sunday after being struck by a vehicle.Birmingham police said that a child was struck and killed at around 12:15 p.m. in the 3200 Block of Jefferson Avenue.Police said that the vehicle remained on the scene. The accident is being handled by BPD wreck investigators. Walt Wilson, a Birmingham Board of Education member, said that the victim is 10-year-old Damario Kirkland, who attended Oxmoor Valley Elementary School.Wilson posted on social media asking for prayers for the family as well as students and faculty.Your neighborhood: Local coverage from WVTM 13
