19-year-old charged in connection to Birmingham toddler injured by gunfire

AND ON THE FREE WVTM 13 APP IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, A WOMAN IS BEHIND BARS IN CONNECTION TO THE SHOOTING OF A FOUR YEAR OLD BIRMINGHAM POLICE SAY TANIYA LOWRY IS CHARGED WITH ASSAULT. SHE WAS ARRESTED WEEKS AFTER A CHILD WAS HURT IN A SHOOTING IN THE SMITHFIELD COMMUNITY. LOWRY IS BEING HELD IN THE JEFFERSON COUNTY JAIL.

Officers with the Community Safety Partnership Division were out doing a walk-and-talk when someone approached them, saying a child had been shot inside an apartment, according to police. Officers were led to a nearby apartment, where they found a girl suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews transported the girl to Children’s of Alabama with life-threatening injuries.
