22 new Birmingham developments we can’t wait to see in 2025

It’s been a busy year, Birmingham! From countless openings and closings around The Magic City, Bham Now has reported over 20 new developments that will be here very soon.

From new parks to exciting restaurants, read on for developments coming to Birmingham in 2025.

1. Alabama Power Substation in Ensley

Last January, Alabama Power announced plans to construct a new transmission substation within the abandoned structures of the of the Ensley Works Site.

Unsure what a transmission substation is? According to theOccupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), “a transmission substation receives electric power from a nearby generating facility and uses a large power transformer to increase the voltage for transmission to distant locations.

2. The Tramont

The Tramont is soon to be a prestigious living complex located at 1236 22nd Street South, right off the Red Mountain Expressway’s Highland Avenue exit.

This upscale development will feature 28 luxury condominiums divided intro three categories: residences, maisonettes and penthouse.

3. Shelby County subdivision

Newcastle Home, a well-known developer headquartered in Pelham plans to develop a new home division in Shelby County. The local developer specializes in residency construction and has contributed over 2000 homes in the past 25 years.

The request to begin construction was approved by the Shelby County Planning Commission on a 5-to-1 vote.

4. Riverwalk Health & Wellness Center in Hoover

A brand new Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) and Diagnostic Facilitly near Riverchase Parkway is set to be constructed in 2025, pending approval.

According to a press release, the Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) and Diagnostic Facility will be located on a 90-acre tract near Riverchase Parkway. The development will sit inside the Riverwalk Health & Wellness Center and will include 450,000 square feet of corporate offices.

5. Homewood Central Park

This one’s for the kiddos!

The City of Homewood plans to build a brand new playground and park center near Oxmoor Road. This new park will see the removal of old equipment, two tennis courts, an outdoor pool and more.

Once complete, the new Homewood Central Park playground will include:

  • Ninja course
  • Swing sets + slides
  • ADA-compliant play structures for all ages
  • A GaGa ball pit
  • Shaded areas
  • Entryways designed to encourage parental engagement

6. Dual-branded hotel coming to Highway 280 

A dual hotel is coming next to Marriott Birmingham on Highway 280. The project originally started in 2019 and aims to house two separate hotels while providing amenities not available in most single properties.

This addition features 180 rooms and is expected to be finished sometime in 2025.

7. Industrial Development coming to Birmingham’s Northside 

River Brook Design & Construction plans to bring an industrial park near the Carraway Hospital site. According to River Brook Owner and Project Manager Kevin Misso, Uptown Industrial Park aims to meet the demand for industrial space in Birmingham’s Northside.

Dubbed the Uptown Industrial Park, the new buildings aim to create new jobs in the area.

8. Luxury apartment complex in Liberty Park

Vestavia Hills’ Liberty Park has continued to expand The Bray—a 700-acre-mixed-use development with everything from retail to new entertainment spaces. Now, they plan to add a luxury apartment complex called Livano Liberty Park.

Here’s a short list of amenities you can expect at the upcoming development:

  • Bistro kitchen with seating
  • Fitness center
  • Marketplace
  • Pet center with dog daycare + grooming
  • Resort-style pool
  • Sky lounge
  • Trapeze coffee bar
  • Workplace area

We can expect the complex to be finished in winter of 2025.

9. Pure Taqueria to replace MELT space in Avondale

PURE Taqueria, a Georgia-based restaurant specializing in Mexican dishes and drinks is opening its first out-of-state location in Birmingham.

The eatery will bring new flavors while providing a comfy vibe and a relaxing atmosphere/

10. $242M Alabaster development off I-65

This massive development will see 600,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and hotel space just off of I-65. The development, which is called District 31, is located at the northwest quadrant of U.S. 31 and I-65 Exit 238.

There’s around 75 new businesses that are projected to rise from this development, including:

  • 7 new-to-market national and regional anchor stores
  • Outparcel restaurants: 3 projected national brand-name sit-down full-service/fast casual restaurants
  • Small shops: 15 to 20 service and boutique-style shops
  • Fast casual restaurants: 10 to 12 new restaurants
  • Potential hotel with retail spaces: 10 to 12 new shop spaces
  • Office space containing 5 to 15 office suites
  • Shoppes at District 31 fronting U.S. 31: 14 total spaces (8 restaurants and 6 service-oriented shop spaces)

11. 5-star Japanese restaurant Johin’na in 2025

In April, the Birmingham City Council passed a resolution to help fund the opening of a new Japanese restaurant named Johnin’na.

Johin’na prides themselves on creating “Japanese cuisine with a modern flair.” While this upcoming eatery is still in its early development stages, its website hints that it will offer:

  • Cocktails
  • Robata (a Japanese method of cooking meat or vegetables over charcoal, similar to Korean BBQ)
  • Sushi
  • Sashimi
  • Oysters
  • Sake

12. Protective Stadium amphitheater coming June 2025

The Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) board awarded a $46.1 million bid in May to build the much-anticipated amphitheater north of Protective Stadium.

This new amphitheater is perhaps one of the most highly-anticipated projects coming to The Magic City in 2025, with this renovation being a key part of the Star Uptown redevelopment.

The amphitheater will be owned by the BJCC and operated by Live Nation. Concertgoers can expect to see the new venue open in June.

13. $330M Coca-Cola UNITED facility in Birmingham’s Kingston community

Back in May, Coca-Cola Bottling Company United Inc. (UNITED) announced plans to construct a new Coca-Cola facility in Birmingham’s Kingston community. Coca-Cola UNITED is investing $330 million in the project and anticipates creating up to 50 new jobs.

According to a press release, the upcoming facility will consist of a 150,000-square-foot, multi-floor office complex that will house Coca-Cola UNITED’s:

  • Birmingham Coca-Cola sales center
  • Corporate, Central Region and North Alabama Division headquarters
  • Classic Food and Vending arm
  • Customer solutions center
  • Services department

14. Vestavia Hills pedestrian bridge over Hwy 31

The much-anticipated construction of a pedestrian bridge linking Wald Park and the Vestavia Public Library received final approval from the Alabama Department of Transportation in June 2024.

This new pedestrian bridge will not only make the community more walkable and safer, it links schools, the park, trails and the library

The new bridge will make Vestavia a much more walkable community.

Here are the specifics about the bridge:

  • Length: 143 feet long or about half a football field
  • Elevator/Stair towers
  • About 300-feet of sidewalk will be removed and reconstructed on the East side
  • About 280-feet of new sidewalk will be built on the west side

15. Historic hardware store in Leeds to open mid-2025

TA Services Inc, a full-service logistics provider headquartered in Texas, is currently renovating a historic hardware shop aiming to integrate the old with the new while utilizing salvaged brick from the historic building to restore it to it’s original state.

The new facility is designed to accommodate the growing TA team, and includes:

  • Open office and meeting space on the first floor and mezzanine levels
  • Conference space
  • A games room
  • A break room

16. Trader Joe’s coming to Hoover in 2025

In November, Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato announced the popular grocery store is moving into the former Bed Bath and Beyond at 1771 Montgomery Hwy., Hoover, AL.

17. Carrigan’s moving to NEW development, The William, in 2025

Carrigan’s, a restaurant and cocktail bar located downtown, will be moving to a brand-new development The William.

A boutique mixed-use apartment building with 27 apartment units and retail on the ground floor, The William is a new development located at 1911 3rd Ave N, a historic five-story building constructed in 1905 as a furniture/department store. In 2025, Carrigan’s bar will join The William and continue serving The Magic City great drinks.

18. New fine dining pop-up coming to The Pizitz Food Hall in 2025

Good news, Birmingham foodies!

Rêve, a fine dining concept specializing in French cuisine, will be opening at The Pizitz Food Hall in 2025.

At Rêve’s new location, diners can expect elevated French comfort food with seasonally rotating three-course, five-course and 10-course tasting menus. The restaurant will also feature a dessert program from an in-house pastry chef with rich, classic dishes like:

  • Coq au vin
  • Steak tartare with caperberry,
  • Truffle and crostini
  • Warm soufflé au chocolat made with Olive & Sinclair’s “bean to bar” chocolate sourced from Nashville, TN

19. New hidden speakeasy coming to Parkside District in 2025

A new upscale speakeasy, The Lodge, is coming to Birmingham’s Parkside District in 2025 that will feature duckpin bowling, live music, and a full-service bar.

The Lodge and Fairway Social are the latest in a series of developments near Railroad Park signaling a push for the area to become the next big entertainment district in Birmingham.

20. Wooden City coming soon to Morris Avenue, early 2025

Back in February, Bham Now reported a new Washington-based restaurant coming soon to Morris Avenue.

Although the menu at each Wooden City is slightly different, Birmingham can expect a well-curated list of American cuisine classics, such as:

  • Small plates like Peel ‘n’ Eat Shrimp, Chicken Wings and Smoked Salmon Toast
  • Wood Fired Pizzas like Pepperoni, Sausage + Mushroom and Veggie
  • Sandwiches like the Tavern and Fancy Burgers as well as the Fried Chicken Sandwich
  • House Favorites like Country-Style Pork Chop and Seared Scallops

21. Helen owners to open new Birmingham restaurant in early 2025

A James Beard award-winning chef from Alabama is opening his second restaurant, Bayonet.

Building on the success of his first venture, Helen, Bayonet will offer a bold mix of Southern classics with unexpected twists. The menu features fresh seafood including oysters.

22. New Yo’ Mama’s restaurant location to open January 6, 2025
