THE HEAT COMING UP, GUY AND SHERRY. ALL RIGHT, JASON. WELL, BIRMINGHAM POLICE INVESTIGATING A TRAGIC CASE INVOLVING THE DEATH OF THREE DOGS. IT HAPPENED LAST NIGHT WHEN CUSTOMERS NOTICED THE DOGS LOCKED IN AN SUV, APPARENTLY ABANDONED AT A GAS STATION. WVTM13’S LISA CRANE JOINS US LIVE FROM GREATER BIRMINGHAM HUMANE SOCIETY TONIGHT. AND LISA, I KNOW POLICE AND THE ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICER THERE WORKED REALLY HARD TO TRY AND SAVE THEM. YEAH, THEY REALLY DID. YOU KNOW, BY THE TIME AUTHORITIES BROKE THE WINDOW TO GET TO THOSE DOGS, ONE HAD ALREADY DIED. THEY RUSHED THE OTHER TWO TO AN EMERGENCY VET CLINIC IN HOOVER. AND AS HARD AS THEY TRY, THEY SIMPLY COULD NOT SAVE THEM. THE DIRECTOR HERE AT JBS SAYS LEAVING ANIMALS IN AN ABANDONED VEHICLE THIS TIME OF YEAR PRETTY MUCH AMOUNTS TO TORTURE. WE NEED A BREAK FROM THE SADNESS. IT WAS A ROUGH NIGHT FOR THE FOLKS HERE AT THE GREATER BIRMINGHAM HUMANE SOCIETY. THEY JUMPED INTO ACTION WHEN THEY GOT THE REPORT OF THREE DOGS LEFT IN AN SUV AT THIS CITGO ON BUSH BOULEVARD. ALL DIED FROM HEAT STROKE. MAYBE THEY THOUGHT BECAUSE IT WAS EVENING, IT WAS COOLER. THAT’S NOT THE CASE. IT ONLY TAKES JUST A FEW MINUTES. WHAT HAPPENS OFTENTIMES IS THEY START TO CRAMP, JUST LIKE IF YOU GET OVERHEATED. THEIR BLOOD STARTS TO CLOT. THEY THEY THEIR BRAIN FUNCTION, THE PANTING THEY FIND WITH THE MOUTH. IT’S A TERRIBLE DEATH. NOW, POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ABOUT WHO MIGHT HAVE ABANDONED THE SUV AND THE PUPS WHEN THEY’RE LOCATED. THEY COULD FACE SERIOUS CHARGES IF YOU LOCK YOUR DOGS IN A CAR IN 100 DEGREE WEATHER, THAT’S A TORTUROUS DEATH. AND THAT CAN BE INTENTIONAL. AGGRAVATED ANIMAL CRUELTY AND WE HAVE SEEN SOME DISTRICT ATTORNEYS DO FELONIES. THE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS HERE TAKE IT PRETTY HARD WHEN THEY’RE UNABLE TO SAVE AN ANIMAL THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE NEEDED SAVING, THEY SAY, ESPECIALLY AFTER THE HERCULEAN EFFORT FROM POLICE AND THE STEEL CITY VETERINARIANS. WE’VE ONLY GOT SO MUCH MONEY. I MEAN, OUR VET BILL FROM LAST NIGHT, IT’S STILL CITY IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. AND WE AND WE STILL DIDN’T WIN. NOW, THE CLERK AT THE GAS STATION TOLD ME THAT THE WOMAN WHO ARRIVED IN THAT SUV CAME INSIDE AND CALLED BIRMINGHAM POLICE WHEN THEY RESPONDED, THE CLERK SAYS THAT THE WOMAN TOLD THEM SHE WAS BEING CHASED BY SOMEONE WITH A SHOTGUN. THE CLERK SAYS AUTHORITIES LOOKED AT HER SURVEILLANCE VIDEO, DIDN’T SEE ANYONE EXCEPT THAT WOMAN DRIVE UP, SO THEY LEFT. NOW, SHE SAYS IT WAS ABOUT AN HOUR WHEN SHE NOTICED THE SUV NEVER LEFT. AND THAT’S WHEN CUSTOMERS SAID THEY SAW THE PUPPIES INSIDE. JBS IS OFFERING A $10,000 REWARD IN THI
