From an all-new ramen shop in Inverness Corners to an exciting café addition to Mom’s Basement in Avondale, here’s what’s new and coming soon to The Magic City.

1. Kyuramen | Inverness Corners

Kyuramen, a popular Japanese ramen shop chain, has opened its first location at Inverness Corners in the former home of Newk’s Eatery. Known for its fresh ramen, fried rice burgers and more, Kyuramen has more than 100 locations across the country.

Plus, they also offer unique desserts like matcha pudding and ube crepe cake.

2. Woods Trading Co. | Gardendale

A new locally-owned outdoor retail store offering popular brands of apparel, shoes and recreational gear has opened in Gardendale.

Woods Trading Co. is owned by Britt and Laura Woods, who also own Werner’s Trading Company in Cullman and Ace of the South in Gardendale.

The new store has a little bit of everything, including:

  • Clothes from Patagonia, North Face + Southern Shirt Company
  • Footwear from Hoka, Brooks + Uggs
  • Fishing gear + camping equipment

3. Cahaba Dermatology | Cahaba Heights

Cahaba Dermatology’s third Birmingham-area office is officially open.

This expansion brings the local community a comprehensive range of dermatology and spa services, offering a new location to receive skin exams, laser treatments, facials, chemical peels and more.

4. Henrietta’s Deli | Trussville

For the last decade, Trussville resident John Finney worked under one of Birmingham’s most awarded chefs, Frank Stitt. This December, he’s opening his own restaurant—Henrietta’s Deli is coming to 120 S Chalkville Road in the Trussville Entertainment District.

Named after his grandmother, Henrietta’s Deli will serve a variety of crafted sandwiches, salads and charcuterie. Plus, there will be a retail area in the deli where guests can purchase locally-made meats, honeys, spices and more.

5. Rêve | Pizitz Food Hall

A new French fine dining concept is coming soon to downtown Birmingham. Rêve, a fine dining concept specializing in French cuisine, will be opening at The Pizitz Food Hall in 2025.

Rêve is operated by Chef Jacob Stull, who earned his culinary chops at several restaurants along the East Coast and the historic Brennan’s Restaurant on Royal Street in New Orleans, where he studied under famed Chef Slade Rushing.

At Rêve’s new location, diners can expect elevated French comfort food with seasonally rotating three-course, five-course and 10-course tasting menus.

6. Café at Mom’s Basement | Avondale

Last week, popular local hangout Mom’s Basement announced its plans to open a brand-new café before the end of the year via an Instagram post. According to the post, Mom’s is launching a new café and is now recruiting a team of bakers and baristas.

7. Five Guys Burgers & Fries | Brookwood Village

The last tenant within Brookwood Village’s original footprint has closed its doors for good

Last week, the popular burger joint Five Guys closed at Brookwood Village. Five Guys has been the only establishment operating at the once-popular mall since Hickory Tavern left in September 2023.
