Whether it’s grab-and-go Mediterranean or an authentic food truck, Birmingham has plenty of street-style eats. Here are seven we love.

1. AHKI’S

AHKI’S has been a Bham Now team favorite since our first visit.

The New York-style street food joint serves chicken, lamb, falafel and beef platters, along with pita roll-ups, burritos and more.

2. Aww Shucks

When you think of street food, you think of Aww Shucks.

This mobile food truck specializing in fire-roasted corn is the passion project between husband and wife Avrie and Phillip Powell.

The duo created Aww Shucks to educate the community about the benefits of eating whole foods and bring healthier food options to food-insecure areas.

And it’s delicious.

Check their Instagram for the truck’s location every day, or find them at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.

3. Salud

Salud Taqueria is the latest concept from Jesús Méndez and José Medina Camacho, two local entrepreneurs behind Unos Tacos, The Louis, Adiós and more.

The taqueria boasts a sizable bar, a build-your-own taco bar concept and makes for the perfect lunch or late-night spot.

4. Yo’ Mama’s

Now in its brand-new location on 4th Avenue, Yo’ Mama’s is a downtown Birmingham staple.

Serving Cajun favorites, chicken and waffles and more, Yo’ Mama’s is your one-stop-shop for comfort food.

5. Gus’s Hotdogs

Gus’s Hotdogs is a household name here in the Bham Now office.

This iconic hot dog stand first opened in downtown Birmingham in 1947 and has been named one of the 35 best hot dogs in the U.S. by The Daily Meal—rightfully so!

6. Dos Hermanos

Dos Hermanos takes the street food game to the next level. I have yet to try this locally famous taco truck, but it’s first on my list of must-visits.

See when and where you can find the Dos Hermanos Taco Truck.

7. Makarios Kabob & Grill

Makarios’ gyro plate is one of my favorite meals in Birmingham.

For authentic, fresh and flavorful Middle Eastern eats, this is your stop.
