‘Tis the season for giving back! Here at Bham Now, we love supporting our local nonprofits that do so much for Birmingham.

Support Education

Birmingham Education FoundationBirmingham Ed is helping local students shine. (Birmingham Ed)

1. Better Basics, Inc.

Better Basics is a local nonprofit that provides children in schools in Birmingham and throughout Central Alabama with educational equity.

2. STREAM Innovations

STREAM Innovations provides students with everything they need to further their passions in Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics.

3. I See Me, Inc.

I See Me aims to lead children of color out of the “School-to-Prison Pipeline” by providing them with literature that promotes cultural and personal reflection.

4. Birmingham Education Foundation

The Birmingham Education Foundation helps the students in the Birmingham City Schools on their path to academic excellence and preparing them for life beyond academics.

5. Girls Inc. of Central Alabama

Girls Inc. aims to help girls ages 6-18 learn to value themselves, be successful, build on their strengths and navigate life’s challenges.

6. I3 Academy

I3 Academy is an education program that focuses on empowering students to be productive problem solvers. They serve students in kindergarten through ninth grade on three campuses in the Greater Birmingham area.

7. Legacy Prep

Legacy Prep’s mission is to help empower their students to impact their communities, build connections and become strong leaders.

8. McWane Science Center

McWane is our local hands-on science center that we know and love. Their facility holds tons of interactive science exhibits, an aquarium and an IMAX theater! It is a powerhouse of fun learning right here in Birmingham.

9. Poze Bazaar Foundation

The Poze Bazaar Foundation believes in the importance of art education for our upcoming generations. They work to expand access to art programs, and also offer scholarships to young creatives.

10. Mason Music Foundation

The Mason Music Foundation works to bring music education to children. Their core belief is that music makes a major difference in the growth and lives of children.

11. STAIR Birmingham

STAIR is a local program that works to improve the literacy of young children. STAIR trains volunteer tutors to work with early elementary students to start their reading journeys.

Magic City Performing Arts is a non-profit organization that is all about about giving back to our Birmingham community through dance and culture.

20. Bare Hands Inc.

Bare Hands Inc. is a non-profit that works locally to create immersive art spaces that celebrate culture as well as art education.

The Virginia Samford Theatre is one of our beloved local theaters here in Birmingham. They aim to promote cultural opportunities for the communities of Birmingham through performance and arts education.

Easterseals of Birmingham’s mission is to provide life-changing support and solutions to children and adults with special needs as well as their families.

24. Mitchell’s Place

Mitchell’s Place is a local nonprofit that specializes in helping and supporting children with autism and other developmental disabilities.

25. United Ability

United Ability’s mission is to connect people with disabilities to their communities and to empower them to live fulfilling lives.

26. Lakeshore Foundation

Lakeshore Foundation is home to Birmingham’s state of the art rehabilitation center that offers fitness, recreation, athletic and educational programs to those with disabilities.

27. The Exceptional Foundation

The Exceptional Foundation is a local program that serves individuals with special needs by providing them recreational and social services that are not normally met by educational institutions and the broader community.

28. Glenwood Inc.

Glenwood Inc. serves children, teens and adults with autism and other behavioral health needs as well as their families. They provide all-encompassing support covering any and all needs from education, therapy and residential services.

29. The Bell Center

The Bell Center provides early intervention services and therapy to infants and toddlers that are at risk for developmental delay.

30. WE Inc.

WE Inc. assists people living with disabilities to find employment and to contribute to the community. They believe that everyone, regardless of ability, have positive things to offer!

Support animals and the environment

Our beloved zoo is home to tons of amazing animals. Your donation would go towards helping the zoo provide food, specialized medical care and general care for their animals.

32. Greater Birmingham Humane Society

The Greater Birmingham Humane Society has been helping people and animals here in Birmingham since 1883. Their mission is to “promote the humane treatment of people and animals through education, advocacy, and services”.

33. Birmingham Botanical Gardens

The Birmingham Botanical Gardens is a local go-to for seeing the beauty of nature on full display. Your donation would go towards helping them to preserve and nurture their gardens.

34. Alabama Environmental Council

The Alabama Environmental Council aims to provide awareness, education and solutions for for Alabama’s environmental issues.

35. Alabama Audubon

Alabama Audubon works to promote the knowledge and conservation of birds and their natural habitats here in Alabama.

Alabama Spay and Neuter is a non-profit animal clinic that aims to significantly reduce overpopulation and removing the need for euthanizing perfectly healthy and adoptable pets.

Hand in Paw brings loving animals to support the people that need them all over North Central Alabama and Tuscaloosa. They bring animals to visit terminally ill patients, at-risk youth, children with special needs and struggling students.

Sozo Children is an organization that provides faith-centered childhood development in Uganda. They work to rescue children from poverty, trafficking, abuse and abandonment.

75. Vulcan Park Foundation

The Vulcan Park and Museum is home to one of Birmingham’s biggest icons, our Vulcan statue! The foundation is a non-profit that works to promote and preserve Vulcan as Birmingham’s symbol and to advance education and knowledge about our history and culture.
