Hiding in plain sight
‘This is a beautiful European mantis, which was very hard to detect. In fact, it was perfectly camouflaged with the dry grass. I waited for around half a hour until it rotated its head to observe my moves. And suddenly, a fly posed on its leg. I think that it mistook the mantis for a blade of grass. Taken in Quattro Castella, Emilia-Romagna, Italy.’

Railway lines
‘This image was taken on a very extended train journey from Agra to Varanasi, India. What was meant to be a journey of nine hours turned into 18. Bored to tears and wanting to escape my little sleeping compartment, I walked the length of the train, taking in the cross-section of people and photographing how they were passing the time. This gentleman caught my eye. He looked so relaxed and at the same time busy.’
