Alabama boy to receive bone marrow transplant from 10-year-old sister

Put him anywhere on the field or on the court, and he will stare down any challenge. Shelton was suffering from nose bleeds and bruising. He was also very tired. And when family members received word in May that Shelton had Aplastic anemia, their hearts sank. Shelton would be in for a fight. Aplastic anemia is rare — only two in a million people are diagnosed with the condition. It’s potentially deadly, but if caught early and treated properly, it’s highly curable. It's a condition where bone marrow does not produce the proper amount of blood cells. Because after she was found to be a 100% match, it will be Paisley to the rescue. Shelton’s little sister will head to Children’s of Alabama next Tuesday. Doctors will prepare her to give her big brother the bone marrow that can cure him. Shelton continues to undergo chemotherapy — in fact, he started another treatment this morning. He’s trying to smile as he remains in a hospital bed, but he’s just so tired. And while he’s a bit nervous about next week, he’s very excited as well, for he will be visited by an angel. Come Wednesday, Paisley will be put under while doctors harvest her bone marrow. Once she wakes up, she will be able to sit with her brother as he receives her marrow. It will be quite the moment.
