Arrest made in deadly Germania Park shooting
An arrest has been made in a shooting that left one dead and sent two others, including the suspect, to the hospital Friday night.On Monday, the Birmingham Police Department announced the arrest of 21-year-old Amont'e Jones. Jones is charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied or unoccupied dwelling (bond $30,000), second-degree assault (bond $15,000), and murder (no bond).The shooting occurred around 7:13 p.m., in the 600 Block of 26th Street SW, according to the Birmingham Police Department. That's in the Germania Park neighborhood.Police were responding to two ShotSpotter notifications in the area that registered approximately 36 shots.When they arrived, officers found a man and a woman suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.The man, later identified as Jeshaun Chambers, 24, of Fairfield, was found lying in the street and was pronounced dead at the scene.The woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.While at the scene, police learned that a third person had arrived at an area hospital also suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.Police now say that person was Jones, who was taken into custody after being treated for his injury. It is unclear if Jones was injured by one of the victims or himself.He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
