Auburn football player Brian Battie returned to be with his team in Bryant-Denny Stadium for the 2024 Iron Bowl Saturday.Auburn Football posted a video of the team cheering and welcoming Battie, who Hugh Freeze introduced as "a special guest."Battie then led the chant with the team."Family on three," he said in the video.Watch his return in the video player above. Earlier this year, Battie and three others were injured in Florida when gunfire erupted at a crowded strip mall parking lot in Sarasota. Tommie Battie IV, Brian's brother, was killed.Days after the shooting, deputies arrested 28-year-old Darryl Brookins in connection with the shooting. He was charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a firearm as a felon.According to Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA, Brookins' girlfriend, 29-year-old Nicole Roberts, was arrested after she was allegedly caught on camera getting rid of the gun that deputies believe was used in the shooting.Freeze was asked about Battie during the SEC Spring Meetings in Destin. He had previously been on a ventilator and it was unclear whether he would be able to walk again."He is getting better," Freeze said to media in the spring.
