BIRMINGHAM. NOT ONE OF THEM WILL WIND UP IN THE FORTIES TO START THE DAY. IT’S CURRENTLY 54 WITH THE MOSTLY CLEAR SKY MOODYS AT 50. ALISON IS ALREADY DOWN TO 47. IT’S 61 IN NORWOOD, 59 IN VESTAVIA HILLS. YOU SEE, THE CLOSER INTO THE MIDDLE OF TOWN YOU GO, THE WARMER IT IS, THE FARTHER AWAY YOU GO. HELENA CHELSEA WILSONVILLE UPPER FORTIES AND LOW FIFTIES AND LOOK AT NORTHEAST ALABAMA GADSDEN ALREADY AT 46, COLEMAN AT 48, ANISTON’S AT 48. TUSCALOOSA ALICEVILLE AND EUTAW SITTING IN THE LOWER 50. SAME THING AROUND CENTREVILLE AND CLANTON CLEAR SKY TONIGHT. BOY, IT’S BEAUTIFUL OUT THERE. GREAT NIGHT TO DO SOME STAR WATCHING. IF YOU HAVE THE ABILITY. THERE IS AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE SITUATED OVER LOUISIANA AND MISSISSIPPI. HIGHS TYPICALLY MEAN GOOD DRY, QUIET WEATHER, BUT ONCE THEY MOVE AWAY, THEY OPEN THE DOOR TO THE GULF AGAIN. AND TYPICALLY THIS TIME OF YEAR, IT’S THAT NORTHERLY FLOW COMING IN FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO THAT STIRS UP SOME STORMINESS. AND I THINK THAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN FOR US LATER THIS WEEK. AND WE’VE HIGHLIGHTED THE TALLADEGA SUPERSPEEDWAY HERE. IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO CAMP THIS WEEKEND, BE PREPARED FOR SOME WET WEATHER. BY SATURDAY AFTERNOON, WE START DRYING OUT AND THEN EARLY SUNDAY MORNING. LOOK AT THIS. WE’RE DOWN TO 43 DEGREES AND COULD BE AS COOL AS THE UPPER THIRTIES IN A FEW SPOTS ON SUNDAY MORNING AND MONDAY MORNING. AND THEN MONDAY AFTERNOON LOOKS NICE, BUT WE’LL BE A LITTLE COOL. COOL COMPARED TO AVERAGE CARRY. THANKS SO MUCH, JASON. AND DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES? WELL, TH

Chilly Tuesday morning and a big warmup for the afternoon
Expect some chilly nights but very nice, warm, dry afternoons through the middle of the week. Your next shot at some wet, stormy weather comes in for the weekend. Check the video forecast for the latest.TERRIFIC TUESDAYDry air heats and cools very efficiently, and Tuesday puts that principle on display:Expect a clear, chilly morning in the 40s followed by a rapid warmup into the middle and upper 70s in the afternoon. Most of Central Alabama warms to around 76°F to 80°F. The wind settles down a lot from Monday: a light west to southwest breeze around 5 to 15 miles per hour. DRY UNTIL FRIDAYThe air stays dry as a bone through midweek, and that means another cool start Wednesday, but the warmup Wednesday afternoon gets us back to the 80s. Thursday looks even warmer: middle to upper 80s expected with a south-southwest breeze operating as part of the 'return flow:' humid air blowing northbound from the Gulf of Mexico as the dry 'high' over the South departs to the east. The clockwise flow around the high turns the wind to the south Thursday, Friday and Saturday ahead of a cold front: coming in with some showers and storms.RAIN AND SOME STORMSWe have been expecting a pattern change for the final 7-10 days of April, and it looks like it begins with a storm system arriving in Alabama Friday night into Saturday: a cold front bringing a round of showers and some thunderstorms. The severe weather risk for Alabama seems rather low at this point; however, the Storm Prediction Center outlines part of Mississippi with at least some threat of severe storms on Friday (before the storms would get to Alabama). Why no severe threat here at the moment? It looks like the best fuel (instability or 'CAPE') for storms exists to our west Friday afternoon, and the storms struggle to maintain any strength as the fuel becomes almost non-existent through early Saturday morning in Central Alabama. We will keep an eye on this. It could be a close call with a few stronger storms if that instability is more substantial than expected.TALLADEGA WEEKEND! The weekend will not be a total wash-out, but you can expect some rain at times: especially Saturday.Rain moves in Friday night into Saturday morning, and it may be slow to exit. A slow-moving system like this often leaves us cloudy and damp with occasional light rain and drizzle lingering behind it for a few hours. That could keep us a little wet for the Saturday race at the Talladega Superspeedway. It's a close call right now.Sunday looks fantastic: cool in the morning (40s), breezy and mild in the afternoon (60s) and full sunshine.Next week starts cooler and drier than average: no big storms or extremely impactful weather through at least April 26th.CLICK TO SEE THE 7-DAY FORECAST—STAY WEATHER AWAREGet the free WVTM 13 app and turn on the alerts for the latest weather updates. For the latest Birmingham weather information and central Alabama's certified most accurate forecast, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10-Day ForecastInteractive RadarBirmingham SkycamsLive Doppler RadarSign Up For Email Weather AlertsDownload the WVTM 13 AppDon't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
