A local bank is planning to move into the historic John Hand Building.
According to the Birmingham Business Journal, CommerceOne Bank has applied with the Alabama State Banking Department to relocate its headquarters as soon as late summer 2025.
CommerceOne Bank’s expansion
According to CEO Kenneth Till, the John Hand Building satisfies their need for both a larger space for new hires and increased visibility.
Currently located at 2100 Southbridge Pkwy near Homewood, the bank’s new location will more than double its size.
Initially, CommerceOne will occupy the fourth and fifth floors of the John Hand Building with plans to build out later in the year.
John Hand Building is going back to its roots
Completed in 1912, the John Hand Building was Birmingham’s tallest building until the construction of City Federal.
From the time of its construction and up until the mid-1990s, the building was owned and occupied by AmSouth Bancorporation. After a $20M renovation in 2000, the building housed Cadence Bank until 2013 and is now home to Landing.
