Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton to be laid to rest Wednesday

FIREFIGHTER JORDAN MELTON WAS SHOT HERE TWO WEEKS AGO AND DIED EARLY LAST WEEK. Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton to be laid to rest Wednesday
Birmingham firefighter Jordan Melton, who was fatally shot at a fire station in Norwood earlier this month, will be laid to rest Wednesday.Melton had been with Birmingham Fire & Rescue Services for more than a year and had recently graduated from the recruit academy.There will be a public viewing at Faith Chapel Christian Center from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the funeral at 12:17 p.m., which was the time he was born. Following the funeral service, Melton will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery. Firefighter Jordan Melton died from his injuries on July 17, according to the Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service.Melton and fellow firefighter Jamal Jones were doing routine morning maintenance in the Norwood area at Station 9 on 27th Street North on July 12 when the shooting occurred. Both men were transported to UAB Hospital, where Jones remains in serious condition.No one is in custody for the shooting, according to police.
