OUR WVTM 13 PROJECT COMMUNITY CHAMPION THIS WEEK! THAT’S WHERE WE FIND OUR WVTM 13 PROJECT COMMUNITY CHAMPION. THIS WEEK, ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL MATTHEW LLOYD AT JOHN S JONES ELEMENTARY RAINBOW CITY, SHAPING YOUNG LIVES WITH THE BOYS TO MEN PROGRAM TEACHING LIFE SKILLS AND VALUES THAT EXTEND FAR BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. THIS ETOWAH COUNTY SCHOOL IS INCREDIBLE, AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, THE HALLWAYS, THEY’RE ALIVE WITH THEMES. THE COACH, MR. COACH LLOYD, AS THE KIDS CALL HIM, HE GAVE US A TOUR AND SHARED WITH US HOW HIS DEDICATED TEAM, THEY’RE MOLDING AND NOT JUST MOLDING STUDENTS, BUT FUTURE LEADERS, INSTILLING GOOD COMMUNICATION MANNERS AND RESPECT. ZANE, EVER SINCE I STARTED TEACHING, I’VE ALWAYS HAD A HEART FOR OUR BOYS THAT DON’T HAVE FATHERS OR THAT I COULD TELL JUST NEEDED A POSITIVE MALE ROLE MODEL. BECAUSE THINKING BACK, YOU KNOW, MY DAD PASSED AWAY IN 2009, BUT ALL THE THINGS THAT HE PASSED ALONG TO ME I USE EVERY DAY. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO BE NICE TO PEOPLE? BECAUSE BEING KIND IS BEING IS BEING SUPER NICE TO OTHERS. I HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME. I CAN’T WAIT TO SHARE THIS STORY WITH YOU. YEAH. BOYS TO MEN, THAT PROGRAM IS GOING TO BE ONCE A MONTH. IT STARTS TOMORROW. STARTS THIS WEEK. THEY ALREADY HAVE ALMOST 40 BOYS THAT ARE, I THINK A LITTLE OVER 40 THAT ARE TAKING PART. THEY’RE ALSO GOING TO BE TEACHING PRACTICAL SKILLS, TOO, LIKE HOW TO START A LAWN MOWER TIE, A TIE, USE A HAMMER, THINGS LIKE THAT. MUCH MORE ON THIS STORY. OUR COMMUNITY CHAMPION COMING UP AT SIX. “Boys 2 Men” Program with Matthew Loyd: WVTM 13 Project CommUNITY Champion

John. S. Jones Elementary School is a place where education transcends the confines of textbooks, and life skills and values take center stage. Matthew Loyd, our WVTM 13 Project Community Champion, is starting a program called "Boys 2 Men." Loyd explains, "Since I started teaching, I've always had a heart for the boys that don't have fathers, who need a positive role model. My dad passed away in 2009, and I use the values he passed on to me every day."In Boys 2 Men, good communication, manners, and respecting others are part of the curriculum. Loyd emphasizes, "We want our kids to get a good education, but even more, we want them to be good people."To achieve this, the male faculty at the school gather monthly to also teach practical life skills. Hudson Jones, a third-grade teacher, hopes that his students will take these lessons from the classroom court to life beyond.
