The Birmingham Legion FC is taking on MLS newcomer Charlotte FC at Protective Stadium for the Sweet 16 round in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

Legion FC has tentatively circled May 24, but date and time will be determined by US Soccer.

“We’re excited to draw Charlotte at home in the US Open Cup Round of 16. This is a huge opportunity for us and for Birmingham, hosting a Major League Soccer team right here at Protective Stadium for a winner-take-all knockout round game, and we’re calling on all of Birmingham to come out in support on Wednesday, May 24^th!” Legion FC President/GM Jay Heaps

Since 1914

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has crowned a champion every year since 1914, apart from 2020 and 2021. 

The American version of England’s FA Cup, the tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.

Legion FC punched its ticket to the Round of 16 when it defeated Memphis 901 on Wednesday night 3-0. This is the furthest Legion FC has progressed in the U.S. Open Cup.
