A Calera police officer was seriously injured in a head-on collision that killed another person Tuesday.The female officer was on duty and returning home to Jemison in a patrol car just after 5:20 p.m. when the crash happened at the intersection of Alabama Highway 191 and County Road 42 West.Jemison police and fire departments arrived to find the patrol vehicle and an SUV had been involved in a head-on collision.The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene. That person's name has not been released.The officer was escorted to UAB hospital in Birmingham for treatment where she had surgery Wednesday morning.
