Horizon Organic Dairy is recalling thousands of cases of its self-stable milk.

The Colorado-based dairy is recalling 19,688 cases of its 8-ounce 12-pack of Horizon Organic Aseptic Plain Whole Milk due to the potential for premature product spoilage.

The Food and Drug Administration initially issued the recall on December 13, 2024. But on Jan. 14, the FDA reclassified the recall as Class II. The FDA defines a Class II recall as a situation in which the use of or exposure to a violative product “may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.”

In a statement to Food & Wine, Horizon said an investigation found the primary cause for the premature milk spoilage was heat damage during processing.

“Corrective and preventative actions have been implemented to prevent recurrence,” Horizon wrote in the statement. “This voluntary recall is not related to an allergen, microorganism, or any pathogen contamination, and no other Horizon Organic products are affected.”

The UPC codes for the recalled Horizon Organic Aseptic Plain Whole Milk are 3663207113 for the 12-packs and 3663207127 for single units. The milk comes with “Best By” dates of March 3, March 4, March 6, and March 7, 2025. According to the announcement from the FDA, the milk was distributed in Arizona, California, and Nevada.
