THE SUSPECTED DRIVER SPEEDING AWAY FROM THE SCENE WERE SHOTS WERE FIRED. IT ALL HAPPENED AROUND 645 SATURDAY EVENING ON AVENUE D. THAT’S WHERE POLICE SAY THOSE SHOTS WERE FIRED AND A CAR SPEEDING AWAY FROM THE SCENE HIT THAT 12 YEAR OLD BOY WHO WAS RIDING AN ATV. OFFICERS SAY THE DRIVER TRIED TO RUN AWAY, BUT OFFICERS CAUGHT UP WITH HIM AND TOOK HIM INTO CUSTODY. THE BOY’S INJURIES ARE LIFE THREATENING. NO WORD YET ON WHETHER THE MAN TAKEN IN
Child on ATV struck as driver sped away from shooting scene
A person was taken into police custody, after a vehicle struck a child riding on an ATV Saturday evening.The Birmingham Police Department said officers were alerted to shots fired in the 2400 block of Avenue D, Ensley about 6:45 p.m. Oct. 26.Police learned a driver sped away from that scene and struck a 12-year-old boy who was riding an ATV in the area.The BPD said the driver got out of the vehicle and started running, but was soon caught by police officers a few blocks from the crash site.The boy had life threatening injuries, said police.An investigation continues and no charges were announced at this time.Stay up-to-date: The latest headlines and weather from WVTM 13
