City Park is looking for public input on the park’s future plans with an online survey and upcoming public meeting.
The outreach is part of the Master Planning process by the City Park Conservancy and landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc. (MVVA).
The City Park Master Plan Public Meeting will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, in City Park at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters. The design team will be introduced at the meeting, and they will present their past work. The information gathered from the online survey will also be shared.
The survey is intended to gather information about how the public currently uses the park and how people would like to use the park in the future.
“This is the beginning of the public’s opportunity to shape the next 100 years of the Park,” City Park Conservancy’s President and CEO Cara Lambright said in a news release. “And we want to hear it all – shoot for the stars – every idea is welcome when it comes to our beloved greenspace. All of these responses help us to craft a plan that serves the greater good – not only for the Park, but the city and region as well.”
This will be the first of six planned public meetings about the future of the 1,300-acre park. Future meetings will cover circulation and access; lagoons, lakes, and water systems; landscape types; and institutions, traditions, and programming. The final meeting, in the fall of 2024, will showcase the final Master Plan for City Park. The Master Planning process began in July and is expected to take 18 months.
