Both Realtors agree that the sale of 125 Lee Lane in Old Covington was a perfect match of clients who appreciated the property’s history and shared in their dedication to its preservation.
125 Lee Lane was bought on Dec. 19 for $3.25 million. The three-acre, gated, waterfront estate, located at the base of Lee Lane, has a pool and pool house overlooking the Bogue Falaya River. The property features a 19th century center hall cottage that is believed to be the old Crystal Springs House, built circa mid to late 1800’s. It was originally room and board for summertime visitors. The property is near Charropin Beach and Park, Fairview-Riverside State Park, Big Branch Marsh National Wildlife Refuge, and the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum.
The home has 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, and 5,600 square feet of living space. It was bought 30 years ago by the seller, renovated from its condition as a family camp, then professionally decorated and updated to modern needs. The buyers are Old Covington residents. The listing agent was Jennifer Rice, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Preferred, Realtors, while the sales agent was Candy Morse Modeen, The Morse Team, McEnery Residential.
“This was a project of love for everyone involved and is one of my favorite properties in Old Covington. The estate has been long appreciated by many residents,” said listing agent Jennifer Rice, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Preferred, Realtors. “The owner has put a labor of love into the home – preserving the architectural integrity of 19th century history and renovating it into a 21st century gem. The buyers are Old Covington residents who have always admired the home and share in the seller’s dedication to preserving the estate and maintaining its elegance.”
Modeen said her clients are “stewards of history and have always been intrigued by the beautiful historic home behind the gate.”
“They have always been fascinated by the property and told me that if the seller was ever interested, then they would buy it,” said Modeen. “After a conversation with Jennifer, the sale blossomed from there. It’s a perfect match of people who appreciate the property’s history and beauty. It was special to be a part of this deal.”
The seller preserved the original floors and windows, dormers, and porches, while adding electrical gates at the entrance, and a massive, circular driveway with a water fountain. The renovated gourmet chef’s kitchen features top appliances and a large island with seating. The home has four renovated bedroom suites and three renovated bathrooms. The backyard features a patio, poolside cabana, in addition to the pool and pool house that overlook the river.
“The views are breathtaking from the porch and the pool area,” said Modeen. “My grandmother developed Riverbend Lane in Covington, so I have always been connected to homes with a river view and those surrounded by nature, and this is a magical property with stunning views.”

The historic Sindos-Latorre-Boucvalt House, a Greek Revival home located at 1025 St. Louis St., sold for $2.2 million on Dec. 20. The New Orleans French Quarter home, built in 1841, features 4 bedrooms, 3½ bathrooms, and 5,900 square feet of living space.
- The property, located near North Rampart St., dates to the late 1700s when Louison Cheval, a free woman of color, purchased it and lived in a Creole cottage there until her death in 1839. Her grandson Leon Pierre Sindos and his brother-in-law Severin Latorre, both free men of color, bought it and built the current three-story house in 1841. The building changed ownership multiple times, served as storage space for an auto paint shop on the adjoining lot in the 1920s, and remained uninhabited for 120 years. In 1993, Dr. Ray Boucvalt purchased and restored the home for his family. It changed ownership again in 2013 and has been used as a private residence since.
- The townhome features tall windows, a wooden staircase original to the property, iron balconies, a second-floor loggia and ornamental details like ceiling medallions, millwork rosettas, decorative light fixtures, and wooden doors. There is a spacious kitchen on the ground floor, and a smaller one on the third. The property’s large brick courtyard has a private outdoor entertaining area with a fountain and off-street parking for multiple cars.
