A new construction project is underway at Birmingham's airport.A groundbreaking ceremony was held to kick off the construction of a new Air Cargo Facility at the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport.According to a news release, the new $27 million building will be a new line of business that includes weekly cargo flights from Germany.“This has been a long-term goal of the airport, and to see it all coming together is a huge win for our community,” said Darlene Wilson, the chair of the Birmingham Airport Authority. “We have the infrastructure in place. We have the best partners in the business. And we have the determination to continue building on what we established earlier this year."The new cargo facility is expected to be completed in spring 2024.
