A little more like summer as heat and humidity build this week

ALL RIGHT. WELL, LET’S TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER. THE WATER KIND OF A NOT IDEAL. MAYBE PEOPLE LOOKING FOR 90 DEGREES OUT THERE. YEAH, I WAS CHILLY YESTERDAY. YEAH, IT WAS COOL. THIS MORNING. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL JUST TO SIT OUTSIDE. THE SKY WAS BLUE AGAIN. WE HAD GOTTEN RID OF THE HAZE. AND TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE SIMILAR TO THIS MORNING. BUT DAY BY DAY YOU WILL NOTICE THAT THE STING OF SUMMER IS STARTING TO CREEP BACK INTO ALABAMA AS WEATHER PICTURE. THAT’S A LIVE VIEW OVER DOWNTOWN TUSCALOOSA FROM THE TOWER APARTMENTS ON THE EAST SIDE OF TOWN, WEST SIDE OF TOWN, LOOKING BACK TOWARD THE EAST, CLOUDS OVERHEAD HAVE ALLOWED THE TEMPERATURE TO DROP HERE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS, BUT THOSE CLOUDS ARE NOT PRODUCING ANY SORT OF SIGNIFICANT RAIN, NO PRECIPITATION WHATSOEVER ON WVTM 13, LIVE DOPPLER. AND WE HAVE THESE BANDS OF MID-LEVEL CLOUDS THAT ARE DRIFTING ACROSS THE STATE. SOME PLACES FULL SUNSHINE RIGHT NOW IN WINSTON COUNTY, EASTERN WALKER COUNTY. THEN YOU GET INTO IT OVERCAST SKY OVER CULLMAN, THEN YOU GOT THE SUNSHINE AGAIN OVER LAKE GUNTERSVILLE. IT’S BEEN IN THE 60S UP AROUND LAKE GUNTERSVILLE FOR MOST OF THE DAY. THE REASON FOR THE CLOUDS AND THE REASON FOR THE COOLDOWN. THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE THAT’S ON THE EAST COAST. AS LONG AS IT’S SPINNING LIKE THIS, IT’S PULLING ATLANTIC MOISTURE AROUND IT. AND SINCE THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS SOMEWHAT ELONGATED NOW YOU CAN SEE THE ACTUAL COMPACT AREA OF LOW PRESSURES RIGHT THERE. BUT THAT CIRCULATION OCEAN DRAWING AIR ALL THE WAY DOWN INTO ALABAMA AND PUSHING IT OFF THE GULF COAST, PREVENTING ANY SORT OF SIGNIFICANT SEA BREEZE. SO EVEN DOWN ON THE BEACH, IT’S A LITTLE COOLER THAN AVERAGE, BUT IT’S KEEPING THE SIGNIFICANT RAIN DOWN. NOW, IF YOU REMEMBER LAST WEEK, THE SKY WAS JUST COVERED IN THAT THICK HAZE. WELL, THERE’S AGAIN, WE ARE LOW IS AND IT’S PULLED IN THAT ATLANTIC AIR, WHICH IS MUCH CLEARER THAN THE CONTINENTAL AIR THAT WAS COMING IN FROM CANADA. NOW, YOU MAY THINK, WELL, CANADA’S SO FAR AWAY. HOW IN THE WORLD DID THAT SMOKE GET HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE? WELL, IF YOU FOLLOW THE WIND CONTOURS BACK UP TO THE NORTH AND YOU CAN SEE ALL THAT SMOKE UP THERE IN CANADA GETS DOWN TOWARD THE GREAT LAKES AND THEN THE WHOLE SCHEME OF THINGS AND THE ATMOSPHERE, IT’S REALLY NOT THAT FAR AWAY FROM US. SO THAT’S WHY THE SKY WAS SO HAZY AND THAT’S WHY I’M LOOKING FORWARD. I DON’T THINK WE’RE QUITE AS HAZY FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. SO WE HAVE NO RAIN TODAY. A LIMITED CHANCE OF A SHOWER TOMORROW AND THEN WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY, SORT OF A MEDIUM CHANCE OF SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS. BUT NO SINGLE DAY THIS WEEK LOOKS LIKE AN EVERYBODY GETS IT KIND OF DEAL. IN FACT, WHEN WE LOOK AT SEVEN DAYS WORTH OF RAINFALL HERE, THERE MAY BE A BETTER CONCENTRATION OF SOME THUNDERSTORM DOWN, ESPECIALLY FROM MONTGOMERY SOUTHWARD BETWEEN THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. BUT EVEN AROUND HERE, THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY, VERY HIT OR MISS WHERE IT HAPPENS AT ALL. IN THE 60S THIS EVENING, IN THE 60S, TOMORROW MORNING, A BRIEF ISOLATED STORM COULD DEVELOP TOMORROW AFTERNOON AS JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE HUMIDITY STARTS TO CREEP INTO THE PICTURE AND INSTEAD OF MID 70S LIKE TODAY, IT’S BACK TO THE MID 80S FOR A HIGH IN BIRMINGHAM TOMORROW AFTERNOON AROUND 85. TRUSSVILLE THOUGH BESSEMER MAYBE 82 TO 84 DEGREES 83 AROUND CALERA 81 AT SNEAD 86 AT ALICEVILLE AND 85. CLOSER TO MONTGOMERY, A FEW ISOLATED STORMS ARE POSSIBLE ON WEDNESDAY, SLIGHTLY BETTER CHANCE THURSDAY, FRIDAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND AND IT’S GETTING HOTTER WITH HIGHS IN THE 80S EVEN CLOSE TO 90 BY THE UPCOMING

A little more like summer as heat and humidity build this week

Just like a holiday weekend, our spell of dry, comfortable weather ends before you know it. Hotter, more humid weather builds this week, and so does the chance of a brief afternoon shower or thunderstorm. Check the video forecast for the latest.SHORT TERM THROUGH TUESDAYOne of the coolest Memorial Days in recent history? Temperatures struggled to climb through the 70s in the Birmingham area Monday afternoon, and some communities in the higher terrain of Northeast Alabama never even made it to 70°F.65°F in Henagar (DeKalb Co., elevation 1500')67°F in Crossville70°F at Noccalula Falls (Lookout Mt. in Gadsden)73°F in Clay76°F in Hoover77°F in BirminghamTuesday promises to be a brighter, warmer, and slightly more humid day with a very small chance of an isolated, brief, small shower or thunderstorm.Expect a daytime high in the lower to middle 80s under a partly sunny sky after a very cool, comfortable morning in the upper 50s/lower 60s. GETTING HOTTERJune First begins 'Meteorological Summer.' We draw that distinction because the atmosphere is already in summer mode by the first of June even though the astronomical calendar still has about three weeks to go until the summer solstice on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:57 AM CDT.Alabama edges into a more seasonable weather pattern through the rest of the week. 'Average' warmth this time of year would be a high around 85°F and a low around 65°F, and that just happens to be a rough guide to the forecast through the rest of this week and the weekend: average.Humidity gradually increases this week: hardly noticeable at first, more noticeable by Thursday and Friday. Greater moisture content plus higher temperatures gives us a good chance of some daily, hit-or-miss showers and storms especially from Thursday on into the weekend.Any storms that develop will be brief, isolated, and small. In other words, more of us get the 'miss' and a few get the 'hit' from these hit-or-miss storms in the days ahead. Outside those storms, it's just hot: highs in the upper 80s and lows in the mid-60s on Saturday and Sunday with a partly sunny sky.Our next good chance of widespread rain likely arrives around the middle of next week with some heavy downpours in the first full week of June. GETTING HOTTER

June First begins 'Meteorological Summer.' We draw that distinction because the atmosphere is already in summer mode by the first of June even though the astronomical calendar still has about three weeks to go until the summer solstice on Wednesday, June 21st at 9:57 AM CDT.

Alabama edges into a more seasonable weather pattern through the rest of the week.

'Average' warmth this time of year would be a high around 85°F and a low around 65°F, and that just happens to be a rough guide to the forecast through the rest of this week and the weekend: average.

Humidity gradually increases this week: hardly noticeable at first, more noticeable by Thursday and Friday. Greater moisture content plus higher temperatures gives us a good chance of some daily, hit-or-miss showers and storms especially from Thursday on into the weekend.

Our next good chance of widespread rain likely arrives around the middle of next week with some heavy downpours in the first full week of June.
