Landon Dickerson earned unanimous All-American recognition and won the Rimington Trophy as the nation’s best center for Alabama’s 2020 unbeaten CFP national-championship team. During his four seasons in the NFL, Dickerson has worked as the Philadelphia Eagles’ left guard and earned Pro Bowl recognition three times.

When the Eagles play for the NFC championship on Sunday, Dickerson could be back at center again.

Cam Jurgens, Philadelphia’s regular center, has a back injury. He didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday and participated on a limited basis on Friday. The Eagles’ injury report lists Jurgens’ status as questionable for Sunday’s game.

On Friday, Philadelphia coach Nick Sirianni said Jurgens was “progressing,” and if the center can’t play on Sunday, then his backup, Dickerson, would be in.

“He’s done it, and he’s solid at it,” Sirianni said, “and he obviously did it at a high level in college. We cross-train our guys. … (Offensive-line coach Jeff Stoutland) does a great job of cross-training guys so guys can play multiple positions.”

Dickerson has played 42 regular-season snaps at center since entering the NFL, including seven this season.

“It’s like riding a bike,” Dickerson said on Thursday. “You go in, get a few snaps, knock the rust off and then you’re usually good to go.”

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts doesn’t expect problems in the exchange or the blocking calls if Jurgens can’t play.

“It’s been great communication, great operation, and it’s always been that,” Hurts said on Friday. “We always share a lot of reps throughout the week with a number of different guys.”

If Dickerson shifts to center, his spot at left guard would be filled by another Alabama alumnus. Tyler Steen has started two games at right guard this season as an injury replacement.

“I think Tyler’s ready to go,” Dickerson said. “Y’all have seen him serve us a lot in game, a lot last year, a lot this year. I think he’s a great player. Every time he goes in, we don’t really miss a beat.”

The Eagles will play the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game at 2 p.m. CST Sunday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. FOX will televise the game.

The winner will advance to Super Bowl LIX.
