Dangerous heat Monday afternoon before lower humidity arrives
EXCLUSIVE LIVE RADAR TRACKING STORMS. SO YOU’LL KNOW. FIRST, THIS IS WVTM 13 WEATHER. IT’S BEEN ANOTHER VERY HOT, VERY HUMID AFTERNOON IN CENTRAL ALABAMA. AND WE’RE SEEING SOME STORM COVERAGE DEVELOPING, ESPECIALLY INCREASING OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF HOURS. HERE’S A LOOK AT RADAR. BIG PICTURE, MANY SPOTS ARE DRY, INCLUDING BIRMINGHAM, METRO, TUSCALOOSA, MUCH OF WEST ALABAMA RIGHT NOW. BUT WHERE THE STORMS HAVE FIRED, THEY’RE QUITE STRONG. AGAIN, WHILE NOT TECHNICALLY SEVERE, BY DEFINITION, CERTAINLY A LOT OF LIGHTNING, HEAVY RAINFALL AND SOME GUSTY WINDS HERE OVER SYLACAUGA BACK UP TO THE NORTH, MORE FOCUSED AREAS FOR HEAVY THUNDER STORMS THROUGH CULLMAN COUNTY. THAT’S GOING TO STRETCH EAST INTO BLOUNT COUNTY HERE VERY SHORTLY. MORE STORMS WITH A KIND OF BROKEN BOUNDARY THAT’S DRIFTING IN FROM THE NORTH. YOU CAN SEE HALEYVILLE GETTING SOME HEAVY RAIN RIGHT NOW NEAR HAMILTON. SOME POCKETS OF HEAVIER THUNDER STORMS ALSO IN PLACE. 95, BIRMINGHAM, 88, CLANTON, 97 DEGREES IN TUSCOLA. SO YOU FACTOR IN THAT HUMIDITY, THE HEAT INDEX TODAY IN MANY AREAS CLIMB ABOVE 105, PERHAPS EVEN EXCEEDING 110, ESPECIALLY ACROSS WESTERN PORTIONS OF OUR STATE WHERE WE’VE SEEN MORE SUNSHINE AND MUCH LESS RAIN AS WE GO INTO TOMORROW. SAME KIND OF STORY, EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING AGAIN IN EFFECT FOR MUCH OF THE AREA WHERE WE DO EXPECT THE FEELS LIKE TEMPERATURE OR THE HEAT INDEX TO CLIMB BACK UP ABOVE 110 FOR A TIME THROUGHOUT THE AFTERNOON. BUT BUT SOME CHANGES ARE COMING IN OVER THE COMING DAYS. MORE MOISTURE STILL IN PLACE TOMORROW. VERY HUMID. LOOK WHAT HAPPENS ON TUESDAY. THE DRIER AIR RACES IN FROM THE NORTHWEST. THAT’S GOING TO PUT AN END TO MUCH OF THE THUNDERSTORM CHANCES. REALLY STARTING WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY. IT LOOKS DRY, LOWER HUMIDITY ALSO MAKING IT FEEL A WHOLE LOT MORE COMFORTABLE. LOOK AT WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY MORNINGS. LOW TEMPERATURES WILL GET DOWN INTO THE MIDDLE 60S AND BIRMINGHAM, NORTH ALABAMA, UPPER 50S, PERHAPS IN A FEW SPOTS. LOWER 60S MORE COMMON. UNFORTUNATELY, THOUGH, ONE MORE DAY OF EXCESSIVE HEAT. THE IMPACT WEATHER FOR THE DANGEROUS HEAT AND HUMIDITY COMBINATION FOR OUR MONDAY. ISOLATED STORMS POSSIBLE INTO TUESDAY. THAT FRONT FRONT MOVES THROUGH LESS HUMID WEDNESDAY. THURSDAY THOUGH IT R

IMPACT WEATHER MONDAY: EXCESSIVE HEATMonday will be another ridiculously hot day in central Alabama! Excessive Heat: potentially hotter than Sunday. Expect temperatures in the upper 90s and a heat index upwards of 108°F to 113°F. Limit time outside, this kind of heat can be dangerous! Afternoon Storms: the coverage of rain will likely be much lower Monday compared to the past few days. Still an isolated storm or two may affect any given area. If storms can fire, they could contain frequent lightning and gusty winds. Download the WVTM 13 App to receive updates on the weather in your neighborhood! COLD FRONT TUESDAYWe finally see some relief of the way!. A strong summer cool front drives storms out of North and Central Alabama for a few days and brings a breath of drier air for Tuesday, and especially Wednesday. It gets more comfortable in the mornings by the middle of next week! Temperatures could fall as low as the upper 50s in northeast Alabama by Wednesday and Thursday mornings; Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston look more like lower to middle 60s at the coolest.Enjoy the mornings, because the drier days mean more August sun and heat: temperatures rebound quickly from the upper 80s and lower 90s Tuesday and Wednesday to the mid-90s by the end of the week. The pattern shift will not keep rain away for long, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It can get dry very quickly here, so seeing a few of the normal spotty summer storms late next week into the weekend would be welcome by then.
