Showers and thunderstorms lose some of that ‘fury’ they had over the past eight days this week. Yes, we still have some daily. No, they will not be as widespread or impactful this week as they were last week.STAYING WARM, NOT 'HOT' THIS WEEKThe weather does not often have much variability in Alabama this time of year. Normal departure from normal (how high or low the temperature is compared to the 30-year average) is only around 4 to 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Birmingham’s average high this week is around 89°F. We come up at least 3 to 5 degrees short of that all the way through Friday. All the while overnight lows remain a bit above the norm: closer to 70 degrees instead of the mid-60s thanks to high humidity and clouds. Tuesday starts out warm and humid near 70°F early in the morning. Some sunshine for the first half of the day pushes the temperature toward the middle 80s before clouds and some scattered thunderstorms develop in the afternoon. Those come from a disturbance moving in from the northeast on Tuesday, and the best chance of rain starts in Northeast Alabama before noon and builds southwest through the evening. A few locally heavy storms are possible! Wednesday looks a little cloudier with a chance of some unevenly spread showers and storms (meaning a many of us get hit, some of us do not). Expect a high in the upper 70s to lower 80s on Wednesday afternoon. LOOKING TOWARD THE WEEKENDReady for some hotter, drier weather? We cannot promise a totally rain-free weekend, but rain chances do trend downward late this week into Saturday and Sunday. Most Central Alabama communities will not see a drop of rain on Saturday, but a northwest flow and some hotter air may set the stage for a few more rounds of heavier storms from Sunday afternoon through the first part of next week. The 'northwest flow' pattern is there; it’s just hard to tell if it will produce the same kind of stormy weather again.TROPICAL ATLANTIC ACTIONUp front, the newly-formed Tropical Storm Bret Atlantic poses no immediate threat to the United States mainland in the next seven days, and it probably stays offshore for its entire lifespan: mainly impacting the Caribbean as a hurricane from the Windward Islands Friday to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic on Saturday. Another tropical wave behind that one has a chance of developing as well. The upper-air pattern over the western Atlantic (eastern US as well) is unfavorable for a tropical system in or near the Gulf or the Southeast through early next week.CLICK TO SEE THE 7-DAY FORECAST—Stay weather awareGet the free WVTM 13 app and turn on the alerts for the latest weather updates. For the latest Birmingham weather information and central Alabama's certified most accurate forecast, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10-Day ForecastInteractive RadarBirmingham SkycamsLive Doppler RadarSign Up For Email Weather AlertsDownload the WVTM 13 AppDon't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
