A Birmingham man was arrested Thursday after injuring two police officers in a crash while under the influence.Just after 5 p.m., 911 dispatchers were notified of a crash involving two police officers in the 6500 block of 1st Avenue North, according to the Birmingham Police Department.A BPD wreck investigator was dispatched to the scene and arrived to find a three-vehicle accident. Police say the two officers were stopped at a traffic light when Roger Smith, 56, crashed a 2020 KIA Amanti into them, causing them to collide with a third vehicle.The two officers were transported to UAB Hospital to have minor injuries treated and are currently recovering.Suspicious that Smith had been drinking, the wreck investigator took Smith into custody. He was charged with a DUI on Friday.
