Evans Meats & Seafood is a Birmingham original
If you’ve ever eaten at a restaurant in Birmingham, odds are your meal included products from Evans Meats & Seafood.
The regional distributor services restaurants and institutions across the Southeast, and operates direct-to-consumer meat and seafood storefront The Son of the Butcher in Pepper Place.
The company was founded in 1998 by J.T. “Butch” Evans Jr.—the “Evans” in Evans Meats & Seafood and the “Butch” in The Son of a Butcher. Today, the business is run by his three sons:
- Addam Evans — President
- Chase Evans — Vice-President
- Hunter Evans — Director of Operations
Since the company’s beginnings in 1998, Evans Meats & Seafood has operated out of a space at 617 21st Ave W along Finley Boulevard. Despite expanding the building several times, the growing company has reached maximum capacity for that location—prompting a search for a larger space.

According to a press release from IronVest Partners, Evans Meats & Seafood recently purchased a warehouse building at 2800 Messer Airport Highway for their new headquarters.
The building was purchased from Billboard Fund 1, LLC and Good Things, LLC for $2,625,000.
“It’s important to us to be a part of the community and to be in the mix of the city.
It’s convenient for the employees and it’s a couple blocks from downtown, right on the edge of the expressway.
This makes it convenient for local deliveries and provides great access to the interstates.”

The company plans to build out roughly 70,000 square feet in its renovation and aims to move in by early spring of 2026.
“I’ve wanted to do business in Birmingham my whole life.
As a kid I used to ride to Birmingham with my granddad who owned Daniel Metals. I remember driving in on the interstate and looking for the skyline – I couldn’t wait to see it. So, I always wanted to be a part of it.
We love the city and want to be part of Birmingham’s continued transformation and progress. This is a long-term plan – we’re investing in this company for the next generation.”
