NEW ORLEANS —

At least 10 people are dead and more than 30 are injured in New Orleans after a driver rammed into a crowd during a New Year's celebration.

The suspect is dead, and the FBI is leading the investigation into the deadly attack, investigating it as an "act of terrorism."

"The screams of those girls, I mean," said witness Kimberly Stricklin, pausing with tears.

Authorities say a driver in what appears to be a rented Ford pickup truck plowed into a crowd on the city's popular Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning.

"Real-life horror movie. Everything in the car is hitting, it's getting thrown," said witness Zion Parsons.

The FBI says the suspect, now identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas, got out of the truck and shot at local law enforcement before officers shot and killed him.

"We are working with our partners to investigate this as an act of terrorism," said FBI Special Agent Alethea Duncan.

The FBI says they don't believe the suspect acted alone.

"An ISIS flag was located on the trailer hitch of the vehicle, and the FBI is working to determine the suspect's potential associations and affiliations with terror organizations," Duncan added.

President Joe Biden briefly commented on the incident with reporters as he headed to Camp David.

"My reaction was one of anger and frustration," Biden said.

"I've contacted every agency in the federal government as well as the state. They're all coordinating to get to the bare facts, so we know what the facts are," Biden added.

President-elect Donald Trump also reacted, posting to social media: "Our hearts are with all of the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave officers of the New Orleans Police Department. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans as they investigate and recover from this act of pure evil!"

The FBI says weapons and potential explosive devices were found in the suspect's vehicle, as well as the nearby area.

They say two law enforcement officers were also injured and taken to a local hospital.
