Financial support awarded to help victims of domestic violence in Alabama
More than one million dollars have been awarded to assist victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Alabama.Gov. Kay Ivey's press office said $1.76 million was being supplied to the state through the U.S. Department of Justice.The funding will go to seven agencies and one university to help victims in 29 counties."These agencies ensure that victims of domestic violence and sexual assault have a place to turn for help when they need it most," Gov. Ivey said. "I commend the dedicated staff members of these nonprofits for helping people at their most vulnerable times." The agencies getting financial help are:SafeHouse of Shelby County Inc., Pelham - $208,022 YWCA Central Alabama, Birmingham - $575,459 University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa - $245,474 SAN Inc. (Turning Point), Tuscaloosa - $36,744 Domestic Violence Intervention Center, Opelika - $166,025 Rape Counselors of East Alabama, Auburn - $124,112 Baldwin Family Violence Shelter (The Lighthouse) - $224,178 Family Counseling Center of Mobile Inc. - $178,819 The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will distribute the financial awards, said the governor's office.Coming Together: Project CommUNITY
