Mayeul van den Broek pilots the SP80 sailboat during a traction test on Lake Geneva, ahead of an attempt to break the world sailing speed record next year in the south of France. Developed with the support of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the sleek vessel aims to reach 80 knots (148 km/h) using only wind power. Started by three sailing enthusiasts, the project team now has about 50 members including students and recent EPFL graduates, with an average age of only 23
