BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A puppy who was abused and dropped off at the Greater Birmingham Humane Society has a new forever home.
Gabby is the name the GBHS gave the doodle puppy it found back Dec. 10 early in the morning at its Woodlawn facility. Officials said she was found underneath an animal control truck hiding from the rain. She was matted, muzzled and covered in bruises.
GBHS CEO Allison Black Cornelius said her main concern was making sure Gabby went to the right family.
“She was such a delight, such a sweet soul and deserved a much better life, and I know she’s got one where she is now,” Black Cornelius said. “She barked a lot, all the time, which is probably why whoever did what they did to her did it and taped her mouth shut.”
The $10,000 reward is still out there for anyone who knows what happened to Gabby and why she was dropped off at the shelter. Black Cornelius said a lot of times when this happens, it stems from a domestic abuse situation.
"We want to make sure people know we’re a safe place for you to call,” Black Cornelius said. “We can keep you anonymous, and we’ll do our best to help you and to help the animal."
The GBHS said the family that adopted Gabby lives in Maine and changed her name to Dream because one of its children had a dream that they were able to adopt and take care of a dog just like her. Black Cornelius said this adoption was made possible because of the over 50 rescues the GBHS works with each month.
