Aryan Shabrei Smith, 30, has turned herself in to police and is charged with capital murder in her boyfriend's shooting death. The shooting happened around 3 a.m. April 8 at the Shell station in the 600 block of Decatur Highway in Fultondale.

A 30-year-old Birmingham woman is facing a capital murder charge after an early morning shooting in northern Jefferson County left her boyfriend dead, according to police.

Fultondale police responded at 3 a.m. Saturday to the Shell station in the 600 block of Decatur Highway, just off Interstate 65.

They arrived to find an adult male with a gunshot wound to the chest. Fultondale medics pronounced him dead on the scene.

His name is being withheld pending the notification of his family.

Investigators said the suspected shooter, who was later identified as Aryan Shabrei Smith, fled the scene before police arrived. The shooting is believed to be domestic related.

Smith turned herself in to authorities later Saturday and is being held in the Jefferson County Jail.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident.

The victim is the city’s first homicide in 2023. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 39 slayings, including the one in Fultondale.
