Helena woman dies in Birmingham City Jail
A woman in custody at the Birmingham City Jail was found dead in her cell Tuesday night.Fifty-three-year-old Tambrala Smith of Helena was found unresponsive in her cell by jail staff members just after 10 p.m., according to the Birmingham Police Department.A Birmingham City Jail nurse attempted to perform CPR on Smith, but she was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.Smith was taken into custody for public intoxication around 9:30 p.m. the night before.Birmingham police have not observed any signs of foul play at this time; assistance on the case from the State Bureau of Investigation has been requested.

Fifty-three-year-old Tambrala Smith of Helena was found unresponsive in her cell by jail staff members just after 10 p.m., according to the Birmingham Police Department.
