Help for Gadsden citizens as storm damage cleanup continues
WVTM 13 NEWS AT FIVE STARTS NOW. THIS WAS THE SCENE EARLIER TODAY FROM THE AFTERMATH OF FLASH FLOODING IN INDIANA. THESE PICTURES FROM VIEWERS SHOWING JUST PART OF WHAT THEY EXPERIENCED THERE LAST NIGHT AND INTO THIS MORNING WITH SEVERE STORMS IN THE AREA. WE’RE ON TOP OF THE FLOODING IN INDIANA. CREWS RESCUED FOUR PEOPLE IN TWO DIFFERENT AREAS TODAY. SO THESE STORMS, THEY PACKED A PUNCH, RESULTING IN FOUR WATER RESCUES ACROSS THE CITY. MORE AREAS, THEY ARE LEFT TO CLEAN UP THAT MESS TODAY. TAKE A LOOK AT THE AFTERMATH IN GADSDEN AND ETOWAH COUNTY. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NOW SAYS 20 PEOPLE WERE REPORTED INJURED AS TREES FELL MAINLY AROUND THE AREA OF THE WORLD’S LONGEST YARD SALE. THOSE INJURIES RANGE FROM MINOR TO SEVERE. TABOR ROAD IS ONE OF THE AREAS STILL AFFECTED ON TOP OF THAT, OVER 12,000 PEOPLE WERE IMPACTED OVERNIGHT BY POWER OUTAGES IN THAT COUNTY. LET’S GO TO WALKER COUNTY AS WELL. A WOMAN WAS REPORTED INJURED AFTER BEING STRUCK BY LIGHTNING. EMERGENCY RESPONDERS SAY SHE WAS HIT BY A BOLT WHILE INSIDE HER HOUSE ON GOLF CREST ROAD. Folks in Gadsden are yet again cleaning up from another round of strong storms.High winds caused downed trees and power lines all across the area Monday, including on and around Tabor Road.Mayor Craig Ford said there was extensive damage to the vendors at the World's Longest Yard Sale.According to information from the city, there are places open for residents without power at this time.The Megan Kelly Dream Center on Black Creek Road is now open as a recovery center.The Carver Community Center is open as usual and has power. And the Mitchell Community Center has been opened for folks needing shelter.If anyone needs transportation, call 256-543-3278. As of Friday morning, parts of Tabor Road remained closed.
