Homicide investigation after man assaulted at Birmingham gas station

A homicide investigation is underway after a man died after an assault at a Birmingham gas station.The Birmingham Police Department released information that stated Lawanza McCormick, 45, of Bessemer, had been arrested and is charged with murder for the death of Cedric Reese, 58, of Birmingham.The BPD said Reese was struck with an object at the 5-way gas station, located at 4800 8th Avenue in Wylam July 12.The police department stated Reese was found unresponsive in his house the following day and was declared dead.The coroner's office determined his death was the result of injuries sustained during the earlier assault.McCormick remains in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.

A homicide investigation is underway after a man died after an assault at a Birmingham gas station.

The Birmingham Police Department released information that stated Lawanza McCormick, 45, of Bessemer, had been arrested and is charged with murder for the death of Cedric Reese, 58, of Birmingham.
