Human skull found five years ago in Birmingham woods identified as missing woman
A skull discovered in a wooded area of Birmingham five years ago has been identified as that of a woman who had been missing since 2005.Juanisha Latonya Wesley, who was 25 at the time, was last seen alive by her family on April 24, 2005, at their home in the Collegeville Community. They filed a missing person report with police on May 15. People later reported seeing her in November of that year at Kelly Ingram Park in the Civil Rights District, and at the Motel 8 at 5009 First Avenue North in the Woodlawn area.Then on Dec. 21, 2020, a person surveying a densely wooded area near the intersection of Seventh Avenue South and Exeter Avenue South called police saying he had found a human skull. On Dec. 22 another search by a recovery team from the Jefferson County Coroner/ME's Office did not find any other remains. It's not known when Wesley died, or the cause and manner of death.
