Humid air returns with showers and storms on Friday
MINUTES. BACK TO YOU, ADRIAN. THANKS. ALL RIGHT, JASON, WE’VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT IDALIA AND YOU KNOW, THE LASTING EFFECTS, FLORIDA, GEORGIA, THE CAROLINAS HERE, THE INFLUENCE IS KIND OF NICE. IT’S BEEN BEAUTIFUL TODAY. FANTASTIC THIS MORNING. I HOPE YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY IT BECAUSE IT WILL NOT BE THE SAME TOMORROW MORNING. HUMIDITY ALREADY ON THE WAY BACK UP AS THOSE CLOUDS HAVE STARTED TO THICKEN OVER TUSCALOOSA COUNTY. CHECK OUT THE FORECAST THIS EVENING FOR SANFORD AND SHORTER FOR DOWN AT SEIBERT STADIUM IN HOMEWOOD, 83 AT KICKOFF, MOSTLY CLOUDY, THOUGH, IN THE FOURTH QUARTER. TEMPERATURES DROPPING OFF INTO THE MID 70S THIS EVENING AND TOMORROW, WELL, WE DON’T SEE QUITE AS MUCH DRY AIR BECAUSE THE HUMIDITY IS ON THE WAY BACK UP AND THAT WILL LEAD TO SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORM. SO AS THE CLOUDS START TO THICKEN UP TONIGHT, WE ONLY FALL TO THE LOW 70S IN THE MORNING AND INSTEAD OF THE LOW 60S LIKE IT WAS THIS MORNING, SORRY ABOUT THAT. BUT TOMORROW AFTERNOON, NOT GETTING ALL THAT HOT BECAUSE WE ARE MOSTLY CLOUDY. HERE’S WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER RADAR BECAUSE OF IT’S DRY AND THE HUMIDITY IS LOW, THERE’S NOT A SINGLE DROP OF RAIN FALLING FROM ANY OF THE CLOUDS IN SIGHT RIGHT NOW. BUT YOU LOOK DOWN TOWARD THE SOUTH AND IT ALMOST LOOKS LIKE LITTLE FIRES IN THE GULF OF MEXICO SPREADING THOSE CLOUDS NORTHWARD. THIS IS TROPICAL MOISTURE. AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, IT IS SOMEWHAT CONNECTED TO IDALIA, WHICH IS STILL OFF THE EAST COAST NOW. BUT THERE’S ALSO THIS THING CALLED AN UPPER AIR LOW THAT IS SPINNING TO THE WEST OF ALABAMA THIS AFTERNOON, SOUTHWEST OF US IN FACT, IT’S CENTERED NEAR LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA. AND AS THE CIRCULATION COMES AROUND THAT LOOK HOW IT’S STARTING TO DRAW IN THE HUMIDITY, THAT MID-LEVEL MOISTURE BACK UP THIS DIRECTION. THAT’S WHY WE’VE GOT A PRETTY GOOD CHANCE OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS GOING INTO TOMORROW. ANYTIME HUMID AIR LIKE THIS, ESPECIALLY TROPICAL AIR, GETS ON THE MOVE, USUALLY ON THE LEADING EDGE OF IT, YOU GET SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS. I THINK AS EARLY AS 8 OR 9:00, WE’LL START TO SEE SOME IN THE MORNING. THEN A FEW THUNDERSTORMS WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT HEAT AND HUMIDITY TOMORROW AFTERNOON. BY SATURDAY, THERE’S SOME DRIER AIR OVER NORTH GEORGIA THAT STARTS TO COME IN AND CUT AWAY MOST OF THE THUNDERSTORMS. THERE COULD BE A BRIEF ONE FOR SOME OF OUR COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAMES ON SATURDAY OR SATURDAY AFTERNOON. BUT I DON’T THINK TOO MANY OF US ARE GOING TO SEE RAIN NOW TOMORROW. WHO GETS THE BEST CHANCE OF RAIN HERE? 4:00 IN THE MORNING, SOME ISOLATED SHOWERS ARE POSSIBLE BY 9 TO 10 A.M. THEY’RE GETTING CLOSER INTO SHELBY COUNTY, CHILTON COUNTY, BIBB COUNTY. SO AS WE ZOOM IN HERE, FORECAST MODELING REALLY WANTS TO BLOW UP SOME SPOTTY STORMS BETWEEN CALERA ALABASTER, CHELSEA HOOVER BESSEMER BIRMINGHAM OAK GROVE TOMORROW AFTERNOON. SO TAKE THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. THIS COULD JUST AS EASILY BE OVER PELL CITY OR TUSCALOOSA. THE MODEL DOES A GOOD JOB OF KNOWING THE SITUATION. SOMETIMES IT MISSES THAT GRANULAR DETAIL THAT WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO KNOW. THE ONE THING I AM GETTING MORE AND MORE CONFIDENT ABOUT, THOUGH, IS THAT MOST OF THIS IS OVER BY THE TIME HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL KICKS OFF TOMORROW EVENING. NOT AS COMFORTABLE TOMORROW MORNING. 60S AND 70S, BUT WE DO STAY COOLER TOMORROW AFTERNOON WITH THE CLOUDS AND THE CHANCE OF SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS. DAYTIME HIGHS ONLY IN THE UPPER 70S AND LOWER 80S TOMORROW AFTERNOON, SATURDAY, A LIMITED CHANCE OF AN ISOLATED SHOWER. THE HIGH ABOUT 86 SUNDAY THINGS START TO GET DRIER AND I THINK WE’RE DRYING OUT FOR THE LONG HAUL HERE. WE’LL GO FROM 89 SUNDAY TO 90 ON LABOR DAY WITH A MOSTLY SUNNY SKY, A LIGHT EAST SOUTHEAST WIND KEEPS THE HUMIDITY HIGH ENOUGH TO KEEP TEMPERATURES IN THE 60S AT NIGHT. AND WE DO START GETTING HOTTER LATE NEXT WEEK WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES RETURNING TO THE LOW AND MID 90S POTENTIALLY AS HOT AS 94 BY NEXT THURSDAY. AND THE HUMIDITY COMES UP JUST ENOUGH THAT A BRIEF SHOWER IS POSSIBLE. BUT IF YOU MISS OUT ON THE RAIN TOMORROW AND EARLY SATURDAY, ODDS ARE NOT GOOD THAT YOU GET ANY RAIN AT ALL BETWEEN NOW AND THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH.
