Season 23 of The Voice comes to a close Tuesday night, and all eyes in our area are on Mulga, Alabama, native David "D. Smooth" Mitchell.He joined WVTM hours before the finale Tuesday."It's truly exciting, truly a blessing," Mitchell said.He thanked Kelly Clarkson and said he hopes he can shine a light on his home city."I could cry right now, y'all," Mitchell said.Watch the full interview above.The Minor High School alumni previously dazzled judges with his rendition of Ed Sheeran's "Perfect,” earning him a much appreciated spot on Team Kelly. "She can sing anything right and it makes you so much more versatile. I feel like that was my case as well and I feel like she sees that in me,” Mitchell said. Mitchell says he wants his story to inspire those with dreams of their own."You have to be able to discern through the mess we grow up in. We're not a part of our atmosphere. We don't have to be. It's hard to do that when that's the only thing that surrounds you, but you can do it. You can do it. If I can do, you can do it for sure,” Mitchell said.
