400 PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR EVENTS. NEARLY EIGHT DECADES AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM WORLD WAR TWO, A SOUTHERN INDIANA NAVY VETERAN WAS ONCE AGAIN CELEBRATED AS A HERO TODAY. JACK MOONEY TURNS 96 YEARS YOUNG. AND TO MARK THE OCCASION, A DRIVE-BY PARADE WAS ORGANIZED FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. MOONEY JOINED THE NAVY AT 18 AND SERVED AS A GUNNER’S MATE ON A DESTROYER IN THE PACIFIC. Nearly eight decades after returning home from World War II, a southern Indiana Navy veteran was once again celebrated as a hero.Jack Mooney was honored Saturday afternoon with a drive-by parade on his 96th birthday.The parade lasted for about an hour, as friends, family and volunteers drove military vehicles past Mooney's Georgetown home.Mooney joined the Navy at 18 years old and served as a gunner mate on a destroyer in the Pacific.Mooney said that he would do it all again if he was called to service, and he was grateful to be celebrated.

Nearly eight decades after returning home from World War II, a southern Indiana Navy veteran was once again celebrated as a hero.

Jack Mooney was honored Saturday afternoon with a drive-by parade on his 96th birthday.

The parade lasted for about an hour, as friends, family and volunteers drove military vehicles past Mooney's Georgetown home.
