Inmate died days after found unresponsive in Jefferson County Jail

More tests are being done to find out why a man died while inside a Jefferson County jail cell.The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office reported the 55-year-old man was an inmate at the county jail when jail staff found the inmate unresponsive inside his private cell Sept. 21.The man was treated at a hospital for several days but died Sept. 26.The coroner's office said there was no evidence of criminal activity associated with the man's death, and the final cause is pending additional lab studies.Deep dive: WVTM 13 Investigates

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. —

More tests are being done to find out why a man died while inside a Jefferson County jail cell.

The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner's Office reported the 55-year-old man was an inmate at the county jail when jail staff found the inmate unresponsive inside his private cell Sept. 21.

The man was treated at a hospital for several days but died Sept. 26.
