How does the Kids Marathon work?
Rather than running all 26.2 miles on race day, the Kids Marathon spans several months, making it much easier to complete while also encouraging kids to stay active. Here’s how it works:
- Fall Training: Over five months leading up to race day, kids run a total of 25.2 miles in smaller segments—either 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or 1 mile at a time.
- Tracking Progress: Kids can run these miles with a parent, in PE class, or both, and track their progress along the way.
- Race Day: On race day, kids gather at Spain Park High School to complete the final mile of their marathon as a group.
It’s a fun and engaging way to help kids build endurance and celebrate their achievements.
Race for a good cause with the 5K Charity Fund Run
One of the standout features of the 5K is the opportunity to raise money for a charity of your choice. You can submit a charity for consideration through the official registration site.
This gives you the chance to make your participation even more meaningful by supporting a cause you care about.
If you want to participate in the 5K, get creative and wear your best superhero costume!
Whether you’re lacing up for the Kids Marathon or participating in the 5K Charity Fund Run, the event promises a day full of energy, community and a shared commitment to health and well-being.
A fun way to get moving
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is excited to support this unique approach to fitness.
“We are proud to collaborate with our civic partners to host one of the largest kids’ marathons in the country.
It was exciting to see almost 2400 children cross the finish line and rewarding to know they are being introduced to healthy habits at a young age. The addition of the 5K benefits the community by allowing older children and adults to participate in the fun and excitement.”
