Jimmie Hale Mission serves the Birmingham community on Thanksgiving
DONATIONS ALL YEAR LONG. WELL, THOSE IN NEED ARE GETTING A HOT THANKSGIVING MEAL THIS MORNING IN BIRMINGHAM. WVTM 13 S BRYCE OSELEN JOINS US LIVE FROM THE JIMMIE HALE MISSION. GETTING THE TABLE SET UP. BRYCE IS THERE IN THE KITCHEN. WHAT’S COOKING UP THERE? BRYCE. GOOD MORNING. CARLA SARAH I’M WITH THE JIMMY HALE MISSION. THIS ORGANIZATION HAS SERVED THANKSGIVING MEALS FOR 80 YEARS. TO THOSE IN NEED. AND THEY HAVE A LOT GOING ON IN THE KITCHEN RIGHT NOW. BUT TAKE A LOOK AT THIS TURKEY. THIS IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL TURKEY. YOU SEE THE GRAPES. YOU SEE THE FRUIT. AND THEN ON TOP OF THAT YOU GOT THE DRESSING COMING OUT OF IT. CHEF’S KISS BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL THAT THEY HAVE HERE IN THIS KITCHEN ON THIS SIDE OF THE KITCHEN. YOU HAVE YAMS. HOW ARE YOU DOING FELLAS. GOOD MORNING. YOU HAVE YAMS RIGHT HERE IN THIS POT. AND THEN ON THIS SIDE YOU HAVE GREEN BEANS WITH ONIONS. THE ORGANIZATION SAYS THAT THEY PLAN TO FEED AT LEAST 600 PEOPLE TODAY. EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PARENT CAROL SAYS IT’S ALWAYS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO GIVE BACK DURING THANKSGIVING. WE ALL HAVE. SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR, AND THE BEST WAY TO SPREAD GRATITUDE IS TO SHARE IT WITH OTHERS, PARTICULARLY THOSE THAT ARE LESS FORTUNATE FOR BREAKFAST AND RIGHT NOW, AT THIS TIME, THE ORGANIZATION IS SERVING BREAKFAST. THEY WILL BEGIN SERVING THANKSGIVING MEALS AROUND 10 A.M., LIVE IN BIRMINGHAM. BR

Hundreds of people in need got a hot Thanksgiving meal in Birmingham Thursday at the Jimmie Hale Mission.The organization credits its volunteers for pitching in to serve more than 600 meals.Executive director of the men's shelter Perryn Carroll explained why it's important to help out."The joy that we're able to spread and letting people know that they're cared for and loved and sharing that with the community, that's what we're called to do," said Carroll. "That's our purpose here, is to help others."The mission also delivers meals for the homebound and provides warming stations when the temperatures fall.This is the mission's 80th year to serve Thanksgiving meals.

Hundreds of people in need got a hot Thanksgiving meal in Birmingham Thursday at the Jimmie Hale Mission.
