How Jimmy Carter went from a small Georgia community to the White House

Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States. He was born on October 1, 1924 in the small town of plains Georgia population 600 and raised on a farm in the nearby community of archery. Well living 2.5 or three miles outside of town. On a, on a farm in an isolated rural community planes. To me was it was a big city, the center of our religious life, in the center of our school life, but still quite different from the daily existence that I knew from the time I was five or six years old. My aspirations were to go to college. And during those depression years, the only potential colleges were West Point and Annapolis because they were free. That shows Annapolis. Following graduation in 1946 carter married Rosalynn smith, a girl from planes and went on active duty in the submarine service. Later he joined Admiral Hyman Rickover elite team as an engineering officer on the development of the nuclear submarine Sea wolf, an early forerunner to the U. S. S. Jimmy carter commissioned in february 2005. Well, I never intended to leave the Navy until I was home with my father during his final days. And so how much his life meant to planes and how significant his life was in the personal well being of so many people. When his father died in 1953 Jimmy and Rosalynn carter came back to planes to take over the family peanut warehouse business. I was on this county school board. I was as chairman and it was only after they reconstituted the Georgia Senate 1962 that I decided to give politics a chance. Jimmy Carter ran as a complete unknown for the State Senate. He lost narrowly when one precinct stuffed the ballot box with votes from the local cemetery carter fought back and won. He served two terms as Georgia state senator and one term as governor. Well, I grew up in the segregated south and I saw the ravages of racial discrimination and a violation of human rights. I say to you quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination Is over. In 1976, family friends and neighbors from Georgia rallied behind him, becoming famous as the Peanut Brigade by mounting a door to door campaign when carter stood as candidate for president. In an era of cynicism following Watergate and the Vietnam War, he promised an honest competent government and pledged never to lie to the american people. My name is jimmy carter, I'm running for president.
