Peckham Shed, a local theatre company, started the Peckham Peace Wall on the exterior of a boarded-up branch of Poundland on Rye Lane, a street that was badly damanged during the 2011 London riots. The aim was to encourage local residents to express their opinions on the violence of the preceding days which left businesses burned, vandalised and looted. The resulting 4,000 Post-it notes covered in messages of support demonstrated the community’s resilience and steadfastness in response to the violence
