After millions of Louisianians had their personal information leaked in a global cyberattack, the state announced it will offer a year of free credit monitoring to impacted residents.
The state will offer 12 months of free monitoring through LifeLock. Interested residents can sign up for the program at nextsteps.la.gov. The Louisiana Office of Motor Vehicles will also be emailing notice of the service to individuals with an email on file whose information was involved in the incident.
Last month, the state announced 6 million Louisiana residents had their personal information — including their names, addresses and Social Security numbers — compromised after the state’s OMV was swept up in a cyberattack involving MOVEIt, a popular third-party tool used to transfer large files.
At the time, many, including Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, called on the state to offer free credit monitoring to impacted individuals.
The OMV has also set up a 24/7 call center to answer questions about the incident. The number for the center is (866) 861-8717.
