A man ran into the Magic City Classic tailgating area after he was shot on Friday afternoon.It happened just before 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of 8th Avenue W, according to the Birmingham Police Department. That's within a few blocks of where hundreds are already gathered for the Classic.Police said the victim was a vendor who received counterfeit money from the suspect. A man ran into the Magic City Classic tailgating area after he was shot on Friday afternoon.

It happened just before 2:30 p.m. in the 200 block of 8th Avenue W, according to the Birmingham Police Department. That's within a few blocks of where hundreds are already gathered for the Classic.

Police said the victim was a vendor who received counterfeit money from the suspect. A physical altercation then occurred between the two during which the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the vendor.

Police made it clear that the shooting did not happen within the boundaries of the Legion Field property.

The suspect has been taken into custody, police said.
