Police in Birmingham are investigating a homicide Saturday.The Birmingham Police Department said officers were on scene in the 600 block of Cotton Avenue SW, at the West End Walking Trail, just before 12:30 p.m.That's in the Arlington-West End community.The police department found a man lying unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound.Medics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.According to Birmingham Police, the coroner's office identified the victim as Randolph Taylor Jr., 38, of Birmingham. Police say the preliminary investigation shows a physical altercation occurred with a suspect, then shots were fired, striking the victim.The suspect ran away from the scene and police officers are still looking for that person.The Birmingham Police Department reported this is the city's 147th homicide of 2024, of those 136 are murder cases, and 11 are justifiable death rulings.Reports show the record for homicides in Birmingham happened in 1933, with 148 cases.
