The family, friends and coworkers of a JSU student found dead on campus this week will hold a memorial service in her honor on Monday Chief of Police Michael Barton said the student, later identified as 22-year-old Anniston Native Mariah Casiano, was found at Pannell Hall. Casiano was a psychology major, as well as a member of Psi Chi, Psychology Club, Active Minds and Peer Educators. She recently made the Dean's List and was awarded a Nathan Jackson Sparks Memorial Scholarship from the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama. JSU President Dr. Don Killingsworth, Jr. released a statement to the university's students, facility and staff."Jacksonville State University is mourning the loss of a student who died at their university residence. Following standard protocol, the University Police Department is conducting an investigation, but I want to assure you there is no threat to the campus community," Killingsworth said in a statement.A cause of death has not been determined but, according to Chief Barton, an autopsy has been planned.The memorial service is set for 6 p.m. Monday, Sept 4 on the front steps of the Theron Montgomery Building. JSU President Dr. Don Killingsworth, Jr. released a statement to the university's students, facility and staff.
