Miles-long backup on I-459 after 18-wheeler crash
It happened in northbound lanes past the Liberty Parkway exit
lanes are back open after a major traffic crash shut down two northbound lanes of Interstate 459 for hours during Monday afternoon rush hour in the Vestavia Hills area. Follow: Interactive traffic mapThe Rocky Ridge Fire Department was on scene and said that a tire had come off of a car and hit the windshield of an 19-wheeler. That truck then veered off the interstate into a wooded area and caught fire. The truck has since been removed and the scene is clear.The crash happened around 3:40 p.m. and traffic was backed up for miles.
